Amazing Sailing in Glacier Bay! | Whales, Mountains, Ice, and Bananas That Refuse to Ripen! - Ep. 23
Having just finished an afternoon ski on the mountains above Reid Inlet, naturally, we set off sailing as evening approaches! But before we pulled the anchor up, we collected some glacier ice for the cooler that was floating around near the boat.
We got a nice little sail out of the inlet, but the wind went calm shortly after. While we drifted around in the calms, a bunch of humpback whales showed up and entertained us as we waited for the wind to return, including one that decided to surface just a few metres from Sea Dream of Clyde!
Our patience waiting for the wind paid off, and we ended up enjoying incredible sailing until midnight, plus a beautiful sunset that lasted for over an hour. Having almost run aground on an unmarked shoal as we entered North Fingers Bay, I describe the reality of marine charting in Alaska.
The next day, we carry on out of Glacier Bay with a real variety of weather conditions that ranged from dry and warm with mellow downwind sailing to heavy rain squalls and strong winds on the nose!
