Spicy Sailing to Juneau, Alaska | Whales Everywhere, Squalls, and Arriving in the Big City! - Ep. 24
Fresh out of a spectacular visit to Glacier Bay, we now hightail it to Juneau. Icy Strait continues to throw all kinds of weather at us, including some particularly abrupt and strong squalls that send us scrambling to reduce sail. While waiting for the breeze to kick up, a curious sea lion visits us, followed by a close encounter with an killer whale and several dall's porpoise
As we round Point Coverden into Lynn Canal, we enjoy an excellent downwind run to Point Retreat before turning into the wind and tacking our way into Stephens Passage. Humpback whales were everywhere as we sailed until last light.
We met some fellow young sailors aboard @sailingkelea8152 who were in need of a fresh toothbrush, then enjoyed some racing with them later on! The final day of the first half of the trip ends in boring fashion with minimal wind and a non-stop ebb blocking our forward progress, though catching a surprise salmon helped perk up the day.
