Episode 5 - Blakes Birthday, Korcula, Dubrovnik and Montenegro
We celebrated Blake's birthday in Povlja, Brac. Where the local restaurant made a fuss and we met spot on the beach. When we left the following morning to Korcula spot and his owner where on the beach to wave us goodbye. 42nm in very light winds but the passage between the mainland and Korcula was breathtaking.
We anchored north of Korcula in Vrbovica and walked into old town Korcula the following morning. Visiting Marco Polo's house, a cocktail bar at the top of one of the sentry towers (no kids allowed so we didn't stay) and watched jewelry being made the traditional way.
From Korcula we headed a short distance south and stopped just off Planjak Island next to SUNDAY where we met Ryan and Brittini from Australia.
As time was running out on our sailing visa we sailed to Zatan just outside Dubrovnik with the plan to catch the bus the following morning into the old town. But the weather gods were not playing fair and after a sleepless night (thanks to music on another boat) we decided to spring for a marina and left the boat somewhere a little safer while we explored. Dubrovnik was all it is said to be and I could have spent a month there. But for us we had to be out of Croatia the following day.
Not long after walking through Pile Gate Leo started feeling unwell. So we slowed our exploring. Headed to Lovrijenac Fort and then to Lovrijenac Beach so Leo could have a lay down and Blake made the most of showing the other tourists how to jump from a wall. Back in the old town we headed up to walk the city walls, rules here are you have to walk in an anti clockwise direction and there are only 3 exits once you start. Leo didn't make it far before he was sick, I am sure throughout history he is not the first person to be sick on the Dubrovnik walls but then we were stuck up top until the next exit. I took Leo down and Glen and Blake continued to finish the wall. By the time they found us Leo had been sick again and we high tailed it to a taxi home.
We checked out on Dubrovnik and sailed south to Montenegro arriving on dusk. Being advised of a good anchorage by the harbour master we settled in for the night only the have a concert just on shore start up at 10pm. I was starting to wonder if I would ever get a good nights sleep.
