Crossing the Caribbean Sea 1200 miles nonstop from Guadeloupe to Panama was a new milestone for us, as we completed our longest crossing with just the two of us (and Harry the Hydrovane as well of course, our unofficial crew member).
Another first for us was a very close encounter with a whale that crept up on us one early morning and appeared right alongside our hull. A scary moment for sure! In this first part of our crossing we experience some rough weather conditions with heavy squalls, acceleration zones and a bumpy sea state as we depart Guadeloupe and the Lesser Antilles.
Make sure to buckle up and get the popcorn out for this one!
To elaborate further on our little whale encounter we have put together an article with a break down of the chain of events that morning including photos, our general thoughts on whale collisions at sea and if there is anything that could have been done to prevent this.
