Flood season in Vietnam, boatyard engineering, ridgeback dogs, and why **48 volts makes a lot of sense on a serious cruising boat**. β›΅βš‘πŸ•

In this episode of **Sailing into Freedom**, we take a bike ride through the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City as heavy rain fills the canals, rice fields, and flood-control systems around the new boatyard. Vietnam handles an extraordinary amount of water, and we get a close look at pumps, dams, flooded streets, and everyday life during the wet season.

Then it’s back to the boat project. We look at **Phu Quoc Ridgebacks and Thai Ridgebacks** as possible future boat dogs before diving into the engineering behind the new **48V Lewmar windlass**. Lower current means smaller cables, less voltage drop, and better performance when the windlass is working hard hauling heavy chain and a mud-covered anchor. We also look at the planned capstan installation and how it can double as a practical way of getting crew β€” or Plucky β€” safely up the mast.

If you enjoy **bluewater catamaran builds, marine electrical systems, 48V boat systems, windlass installations, Vietnam life, and the practical engineering behind offshore cruising**, this one has plenty to get into.
