This is bad!!! Our vang falls off and a loud noise starts in the steering, is it safe to go on? #50

Having recovered from our passage to Brindisi we nervously set sail again heading for Syracuse on Sicily, some 280nm away. The sailing turned out to be much better than we had anticipated and all was going well until we were surprised to find that our boom vang had fallen off! After making running repairs to the vang and deciding that it was safe to continue our passage, a new and loud squeak began to emanate from the steering that required investigation….
