What Do Sailors Do AFTER Braving A Storm? 💁
CELEBRATING OUR WINS in WHITIANGA, NZ: Sea Caves, Breweries & Hiking | S01E14 Sailing Pivo
In this episode, we sail to the town of Whitianga on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand. We were excited to sail to Whitianga because it has numerous attractions to offer, including Cathedral Cove (featured in the Chronicles of Narnia), Big Bay's Blowhole, Hot Water Beach, Coromandel Brewing Company, and numerous other attractions.
At a cheap $7nzd round trip pp, we take the ferry across to Whitianga town for the day to explore. However, its the next day's 12km hike to Coromandel Brewing Company that we are looking forward to most. We don't stop at Cathedral Cove though, as it's not dog friendly.
The next day, we meet up with fellow YouTube Channel, Sailing Seahawk: www.youtube.com/sailingseahawk Ralph and Mac are fantastic, and we end up helping them get into the marina, which was great practice for us! The 40 minute dinghy ride back to our boat in the dark is a bit intimidating though.
The next day, its time to leave Whitianga. Little do we know that the next 5 days will be the most challenging of our sailing experience to date.

ABOUT US
Come join my wife, dog, and I as we learn to sail and have new sailor experiences on our New Zealand made Whiting 40. We are a brand new sailing couple, and have fallen in love with the sport. Many sailing lessons have been learned so far as we learn how to become sailors. Our first mate, Pivo, keeps us out of trouble and is also learning along the way.
We are starting our voyage in New Zealand where we have been living for the last 4 years. But we are going zero to cruising because we're from the mountains of Colorado and have zero experience! Our first sail was with the sailing school, Great Escape, up in Opua, New Zealand (home the 2021 America's Cup). We hope our lessons from a beginner sailor will help you also as we set out on a multi-year sailing adventure around the world.
