A BIG SAILING MILESTONE (Done Not So Gracefully)
UNMARKED ROCK? BIG WAVES! LOST SNUBBER! First Sail Around Coromandel Peninsula | S01E12 Sailing Pivo
We finally set sail around Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand. We get becalmed while sailing up the west coast, and opt to stay in Port Jackson instead of completing the passage around the peninsula. As we pull into the peninsula, we see BIG WAVES and think we see an UNMARKED ROCK. We simply cannot find it on Navionics. While anchoring, we forget to take down the main sail, and in the process of anchoring, Conor drops the snubber into the water.
The next morning, we see that the unmarked rock is actually a reef coming off the mainland. So, we set sail through the Colville Channel, opting to sail between Channel Island and the Mainland of Coromandel Peninsula. There are BIG WAVES out on the seas, and Conor gets seasick. We make it though, and find some good protection for 35 knot winds that are expected in the next couple of days.

Come join my wife, dog, and I as we learn to sail and have new sailor experiences on our New Zealand made Whiting 40. We are a brand new sailing couple, and have fallen in love with the sport. Many sailing lessons have been learned so far as we learn how to become sailors. Our first mate, Pivo, keeps us out of trouble and is also learning along the way.
