Killer Whales, Chill Solo Sailing, and an Epic Sunset | Ep 3 | Nanaimo to Kendrick Island
With Sea Dream of Clyde positioned in Nanaimo ahead of a visit to the shipyard, I took the opportunity to head to Dogfish Bay, which is one of my favorite anchorage in Gulf Islands. Decent sailing out of the gate was made even better when a pod of transient orcas decided to swim right past Sea Dream of Clyde. The forecasted 10 - 15 kts of NW wind never materialized, so after bobbing around for awhile, I motored most the way to anchor.
I was treated to an epic sunset while walking around the shore of Kendrick Island, and had a peaceful evening at anchor. In the morning, I went for a walk around Wakes Cove Provincial Park on Valdes Island, before catching the last of the flood tide to boost me up past Silva Bay. Light winds slowly freshened, giving me a nice sail back to Nanaimo.
