Encountering a MIGRANT RAFT between the Canary Islands and Africa [SOLO SAILING] #113

Location: Canary Islands
Latitude: 28.29000000
Longitude: -16.63000000
Published: 6 Apr 2022

This is not the start that Ryan expected to have when he left Lanzarote to cross the Atlantic solo onboard Polar Seal. And while we've always been aware of the migrant crisis between Africa and Europe, we never imagined that we would be confronted to it in such a brutal way.

It has been two months since the events, and Ryan is still very impacted by that night of January 2022, when he was called by the Coast Guards to go confirm the sighting of a migrant raft 100 nautical miles south of Gran Canaria.

We understand that the migrant crisis is a divisive topic, and we can not cover all of its aspects. We understand that you may have opinions, but please be respectful of each other in the comment section.

We are donating the advertising revenue from this video to the United Nations Refugee Agency - https://www.unhcr.org/

The primary purpose of the UNHCR is to safeguard the rights and well-being of people who have been forced to flee. Together with partners and communities, the UNHCR work to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another country.

I (Ryan) created a T-shirt together with our good friend, sailor and graphic designer Steffie from @KnotVikings .

All the profits from the T-shirt sales will be donated to the UNHCR.
The "Explore Humanity" T-Shirt will be available until the end of May only at:
