It is actually afternoon this time, but that doesn't mean we are skipping our classic 'Coffee Time' ritual! Welcome back aboard Lady Liselotte for part two of our journey over the Seine, from Honfleur to Rouen.
Grab a drink, sit back, and enjoy this fateful moment with me. Why fateful? Well... I completely messed up.
In this episode, you’ll see that despite having three different almanacs, guidebooks, and PDFs, I managed to create total confusion about the mandatory VHF radio channel on the Seine. Is it 10 or 73? I called and called, but nobody answered... and with Shaggy's voice in my head saying "It wasn't me", I have my own theory on why they ignored me.
But that's not all. Apparently, "somebody" (and I’m not saying it was me, but it was my 32-ton boat...) made a total mess of calculating the tidal current. We expected to zoom up the river, but instead, I found myself virtually standing still while watching a giant container ship approach me—without a blue sign to be found.
As we get closer to the massive port of Rouen, my AIS alarm starts screaming because two river cruise ships are entering my safety zone. Was I prepared? Let’s just say my chartplotter had some very... 'creative' views of the river.
It's a journey filled with autumn colors, lovely French pastry, complete radio silence, and some questionable navigational decisions.
