Life at Sea: Returning to My Storm-Battered Sailboat #japan #waves #typhoon #anchor
Returning to Wahine, my trusty Gib Sea 402, in a secluded inlet on Amami Island fills me with both relief and apprehension. Typhoon Kahnun’s prolonged presence over the island brought my first real fear for her safety. Although I’m grateful she’s still afloat, the true extent of any damage remains unknown. As I ready Wahine for the next leg of my journey, I feel my mother’s spirit close by, echoing her wisdom about waves:
“Some waves unite as they recede, pushing the next wave farther onto the shore. Others resist and pull back, creating an undertow that drags the momentum away.”
Inspired by her words, I choose to be like the first wave—joining forces to move forward, stronger together.
