We Hunted Coconut Crabs at Night on an Uninhabited Atoll — with Sailing Delos & Harbours Unknown

Welcome back to WE|Sail | Episode 253

Tahanea. No roads. No villages. No people. Just one of the most remote and spectacular uninhabited atolls in all of French Polynesia — and somehow, some of our favourite people in the world were anchored right next to us.

In this episode, WEsail, Sailing Delos, and Harbours Unknown all converge on Tahanea atoll deep in the Tuamotu Archipelago for one of the most memorable weeks of our entire Pacific crossing. We're living completely off the grid, surrounded by nothing but turquoise lagoon, coral, and the kind of silence you only find hundreds of miles from the nearest town.

Brian from Sailing Delos has a birthday to celebrate — and we celebrate it the only way that makes sense out here: by attempting to foil board across an entire atoll lagoon. Then, as the sun goes down, we head into the jungle for something we'd never tried before: hunting coconut crabs. The largest land crabs on earth. And they are every bit as enormous and wild as you'd expect.
Then we go deeper — literally — with a night dive on the atoll reef that reminded us exactly why we sold everything and sailed here in the first place.
